News: Delta Sigma Phi Presents: See-Saw For Life! [RECAP!] (@VTDSPNews)

Better Men. Better Lives
- Delta Sigma Phi Creed

For those of you who are unaware of what this phrase truly means, all you have to do is look at the work that the men of Delta Sigma Phi, here at Virginia Tech, have accomplished with their latest philanthropic effort. Having nearly raised 500 units of blood it seems this group of men can put their mind to anything and make their goal a reality. With this being said, we here at the TG highly encourage all of you to hit the jump to view pictures from the event, as well as, read the official recap on "See-Saw for Life" written by none other than DSP's own, Mario Gazzola

Around 7:30 pm on Friday, September 2nd, the last blood donation was completed and the 2011 edition of See Saw for Life came to a close. Our goal of 500 donations was not met, not because of a lack of volunteers, but because so many people came around to donate that the Red Cross staff didn't have enough manpower to take them all in.

The Hokie community came out in full force, with over 600 people who tried to donate. The final result of the drive was 464 units of blood donated, which while slightly under our goal, still soundly beats the previous Virginia Tech record.

Second to the amount of blood collected, the most important result of the event is the awareness it generated. As we go into hurricane season and blood is needed across the east coast, having a week long event with a blood drive, the see saw, and the tshirts really helped alert people to the needs of the Red Cross and the great work it does.

We look forward to continuing this event in the future, as well as partnering up with other organizations that run successful drives at Virginia Tech such as the Corps of Cadets to blow this year's total out of the water.
